Prior to his coaching tenure, he competed at PLNU for two seasons. As a Sea Lion, Copland compiled a 25-21 singles record, as the team’s number one or two player and added 20 doubles wins competing on court one. At Palomar College, he went an impressive 28-11 in singles and 36-4 in doubles play
